I had tenderness on my cheekbone for weeks, and on and off toothache, only nothing astringent with my dental abscess. Suddenly my face started to swell to the point it caused my eye to close. I went to Accident and Emergency (Emergency Room in the US). They eventually admitted me to a ward, started a class of IV antibiotics and made an incision in my glue above the cleaved tooth. The physician so squeezed my face up to manually remove what felt like a gallon of pus from behind my cheek, via the gum incision. Six hours later I have been discharged.
